In a recent interview with BollywoodLife, we had a chance to chat with Pratibha Ranta, who plays the character Jaya in Laapataa Ladies. We delved into the topic of the audience’s acceptance of TV stars on the big screens, considering Pratibha’s previous work on the popular TV show Qurbaan Hua.
When asked about whether the audience has become more accepting of TV stars making a transition to movies, Pratibha responded with a witty remark, “I think the audience just wants to see good work. They just want good stories around them.”
She also noted that she has personally witnessed the changing dynamics, where people are not only consuming great content on OTT platforms but also flocking to theaters to experience it.
Pratibha gave an example of the show “12th Fail” that was initially released on Hotstar. While people did watch it on the platform, they still chose to go to movie theaters to catch it again.
According to Pratibha, this phenomenon is driven by the magic of the story. She believes that in today’s time, the background or medium doesn’t really matter; it’s the quality of the work that truly shines and captivates the audience.
Pratibha further emphasized that as long as an actor works with conviction, the divide between mediums becomes irrelevant. She acknowledged that the landscape has changed significantly, especially when it comes to scripts and roles for female actresses.
In the past, actresses often struggled to find substantial roles that allowed them to showcase their talent. However, in recent times, the roles have become more defined and layered, blurring the lines between TV and movies.
Using her own character, Jaya, as an example, Pratibha expressed her gratitude for getting the opportunity to portray a strong and layered character in her debut movie. She believes that the more depth and complexity a character has, the more the audience can connect with them.
