BJP Files Complaint Against Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Shakti’ Remark

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken its grievances to the Election Commission of India, filing a complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent ‘fight against shakti’ remark and comments on electronic voting machines (EVMs).

The complaint stems from a public rally held by Rahul Gandhi in Mumbai on February 17, where he stated, “There is a word ‘shakti’ in Hinduism. We are fighting against a shakti.” He went on to say, “The question is, what is that shakti? The soul of the king is in the EVM.

This is true. The soul of the king is in the EVM and in every institution of the country, in ED, CBI, and the Income Tax Department.”

Rahul Gandhi has also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot win elections without the use of EVMs. In response, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri arrived at the Election Commission of India office in New Delhi to file a complaint against the Wayanad MP, seeking action against him.

“A host of statements has been made by the Congress party. We have appealed to the ECI to take action in this case. If Congress continues to perpetrate these kinds of lies and actions are not taken, then it will go unchecked,” Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated.

Rahul Gandhi’s comments have invited sharp criticism from the BJP, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During multiple election rallies over the past two days, the Prime Minister countered the Congress leader’s statements by asserting that ‘shakti’ in Hinduism means the embodiment of the divine, and that opposition parties are attempting to destroy it.

“Can someone talk about the destruction of ‘shakti’?… The fight is between those who want to destroy ‘shakti’ and those who worship ‘shakti’,” PM Modi declared in Telangana.

Following the controversy, Rahul Gandhi offered an explanation, accusing the Prime Minister of twisting his words.

He also claimed that by ‘shakti’, he meant the might of the state. However, the BJP remains steadfast in their complaint to the Election Commission, seeking action against the Congress leader for his remarks.

The ongoing tussle between the BJP and Congress highlights the intense competition and political maneuvering leading up to the upcoming elections. Both parties are vying for the support of the electorate and are employing various strategies to sway public opinion.

While the BJP’s complaint to the Election Commission is part of their effort to hold Rahul Gandhi accountable for his statements, it also serves as a means to shape the narrative surrounding the use of EVMs.

The BJP maintains that EVMs are reliable and secure, dismissing allegations of tampering and questioning the intentions behind such claims.

On the other hand, the Congress party, led by Rahul Gandhi, is attempting to raise doubts about the integrity of EVMs and the electoral process.

By alleging that the soul of the king resides in the EVM, Rahul Gandhi is insinuating that the ruling party has undue influence and control over key institutions in the country.
