Tom Cruise arrived in style at the world premiere of Top Gun: Maverick on May 4! The 59-year-old actor landed in a helicopter emblazoned with the Top Gun: Maverick logo on the USS Midway in San Diego, California.

He looked as dashing as ever as he posed on the red carpet in a sharp black suit, matching vest, and black dress shoes. His ensemble was completed by a white dress shirt and a gray tie.

And if you’ve been hearing about Top Gun for a while, that’s because you have. Miles Teller, 35, Jennifer Connelly, 51, Jon Hamm, 51, Glen Powell, 33, Lewis Pullman, 29, Ed Harris, 71, and Val Kilmer, 62 starred in the film, which was shot between 2018 and 2019.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the original premiere date of June 24, 2020, was pushed back four times. The film will be released in theaters to the general public on May 27.

Top Gun: Maverick is the long-awaited sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun. Tom will reprise his iconic role as Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, alongside Val Kilmer, who will reprise his role as Maverick’s adversary, Commander Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. Tom reportedly played a significant role in ensuring Val returned for the sequel.

“‘We have to have Val, we have to have him back,’ he said. In August 2021, the film’s director, Jerry Bruckheimer, 61, told People, “We have to have him in the film.” “He was the motivator. We all wanted him, but Tom was adamant that if he made another Top Gun, Val had to be in it.”

The premiere comes just weeks after Tom was spotted in South Africa filming the latest Mission Impossible film, in which he first appeared in 1996. Photos of him looking exactly the same as he did while filming the original Top Gun showed him smiling and applauding fans who sang the film’s theme song.
