Kim Kardashian went to great lengths to be the star of the show at the Met Gala on Monday, but it wasn’t just about the gown! The reality star, 41, not only wore the iconic gown worn by Marilyn Monroe when she sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy in 1962, but she also dyed her hair platinum blonde to fully resemble the bombshell.
“I’ve been doing this for 10 hours already,” Kim stated in a head full of foils in a section of sister Kylie Jenner‘s video blog of the pre-gala getting-ready process. “I’ll risk getting my hair to fall out,” she joked, scurrying off-screen for her stylist to tend to the now-platinum-colored locks.
Kim Kardashian was willing to go to any length to achieve the perfect Met Gala look, an example of that was a video footage that shows Kim and her boyfriend, Pete Davidson, visiting the iconic dress’s home at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not in Orlando, revealing that Kim was unable to zip the dress all the way up.
The video shows the reality star being helped into the figure-hugging gown, with various handlers struggling to lift the fabric over her backside without ripping it.
“To fully fit into the frock, I had to go to some lengths,” Kim revealed that she lost 16 pounds in three weeks just to fit into the iconic gown, and she panicked when she realized she still couldn’t fit into it with just days until the Met Gala.
In the video, she appears to become agitated when the dress does not lift over her buttocks. Pete, on the other hand, is by her side, assuring her that everything will be fine. “You’re fine,” he says. “You’re fine; take it easy.” Pete maintains a firm grip on Kim’s hand as she sucks in to put on the dress.
Kim changed into a replica after walking the Met Gala red carpet, and the dress had to be handled with extreme caution. Pete was by her side once more as they attended the high-profile event on May 2.
Although Kim received some criticism for her intense pre-Met Gala dieting, she admitted she was extremely proud of herself for going to such lengths to wear Marilyn Monroe’s gown.
Kim claimed that she lost weight by cutting out sugar and carbs and working out in a sauna suit. She ate pizza and donuts after the Met Gala to satisfy cravings she’d been denying herself for several weeks.
