Kim Mi-soo, a South Korean actress, died unexpectedly on Wednesday. The K-drama actor was 29 years old.
“Kim suddenly left us on Jan. 5. The bereaved are deep in their sorrow at the sudden sadness. Please refrain from reporting false rumors or speculation so that the family can mourn in peace,” the late performer’s agency, Landscape Entertainment, said in a statement translated by Korea JoongAng Daily.
Kim’s cause of death was not revealed. Her age at death has also been reported as 30 and 31 due to Korean age calculation.
Kim, whose name is also spelled “Misu,” is best known for her role in the divisive South Korean television series “Snowdrop.” The period drama, which debuted in December, is set in 1987 Korea and tells the story of a romance blossoming amid the political turmoil of the pro-democracy movement.
Its depiction of North Koreans, song selection, and historical accuracy have sparked outrage, with backlash weighing on the shares of several affiliated companies and one petition garnering over 300,000 signatures, according to Variety.
Kim played a history student who shared a room with Young-ro, the series’ female protagonist, who was played by South Korean singer Jisoo of the massively popular girl group Blackpink.
Kim appeared in a number of other films and shorts prior to her appearance in “Snowdrop,” which is available on producer JTBC Studios’ network in Korea and Disney+ elsewhere.

According to JoongAng Daily, these include her debut in the 2018 short “Lipstick Revolution,” the 2019 films “Memories” and “Kyungmi’s World,” the 2019 JTBC drama series “Human Luwak,” and the shows “Hi Bye, Mama!” and “Into the Ring” in 2020.
She also appeared in the hit Netflix drama “Hellbound” a month before the premiere of “Snowdrop,” which dethroned “Squid Game” as the streaming giant’s most-watched series.
