Dharmendra, the veteran actor, will celebrate his birthday on December 8, 2021. In a recent interview, his adoring wife, Hema Malini, revealed what kept their marriage vibrant after all these years!
Dharmendra, the ‘evergreen’ actor, and Hema Malini, the ‘Dream Girl’ of Indian cinema, had a filmy love story. Dharmendra was previously married to Prakash Kaur before marrying Hema Malini.
There is a 13-year age difference between them. Hema Malini almost married Jeetendra once when a drunk Dharmendra crashed their wedding and married Hema! For the uninitiated, these lovebirds married in 1980.
Hema and Dharmendra, are content with their marriage. The Dreamgirl, Hema Malini, and the ‘He-Man,’ Dharmendra, are two of Bollywood’s most popular on-screen couples. They had given us many hit films and had won our hearts over the years.
The couple has two daughters, Esha and Ahana, as well as their grandchildren, Radhya and Miraya Deol of Esha Deol and Astraia and Adea Deol of Ahana Deol.

“I was born and brought up in a family, which lay great emphasis on the arts. I was dedicated to dance. My mother was keen that I pursue it always. Marriage with Dharamji was another important event in my life. The best thing was that he never stopped me from working.
“Dharamji too enjoys acting no matter what the conditions. His profession is his passion and he cherishes his fans. We respect each other’s work and share a great understanding between us. We’re close and yet we follow our individual paths. We give each other space, which has enhanced our relationship.”
Later in the conversation, when Hema Malini was asked what togetherness means to her, the stunning actress stated that it is all about spending time with each other, she said:
“Earlier it meant spending time with each other. Today, we’re more concerned about each other’s health and wellbeing. I don’t demand much from him. All I want him to be is comfortable and happy. If he’s feeling low, I’m there to cheer him up.
“We enjoy looking after each other. And in this, our children are our strength and support. We love spending time at Dharamji’s farm in Lonavala. It’s a beautiful place. But being work-oriented, we can’t stay there for too long. We have to come back to our commitments.”
Hema Malini considers their children, Esha and Ahana, to be the most precious gifts in her life. Hema Malini continued the conversation by saying: “The most beautiful thing that Dharamji has given me is our children. Together, we have shared lovely memories through this journey.”
When asked how they plan to celebrate Dharmendra’s birthday today, his adoring wife, Hema Malini, revealed a little insider information and revealed that there will be something special. She stated:
“We’re looking forward to celebrating it together. Esha and Ahana will plan something special. Even the grandkids (Esha Deol’s daughters Radhya and Miraya and Ahana Deol’s son Darian and twin daughters Astraia and Adea) are crazy about their ‘Nanu’. The children carry individual gifts for him. Dharamji loves gifts and unwraps them with the excitement of a child.”
