A special team of police from the Central Crime Branch of the Chennai police on Friday arrested PUBG gamer Madhan Manikkam from a relative’s house in Dharmapuri minutes after his lawyer had moved the Madras High Court for anticipatory bail.

A source disclosed that the police narrowed down on Madhan on Thursday night. Being fully aware that the police will go after him sooner or later, his lawyer moved the Madras High Court for anticipatory bail.

The police arrested Madhan before the bail petition was submitted and Justice M Dhandapani dismissed the anticipatory bail petition as he was apprehended.

The police are currently moving Madhan via road and are expected to present him in front of a magistrate court by Friday evening.

Police had registered cases under different sections of IPC including the use of obscene words and cheating, Information Technology Act, and The Indecent Representation of Women Prohibition Act, 1986.

On Wednesday, the Central Crime Branch arrested Madhan’s wife Kruthika after it was discovered during an investigation that she was the one who often discusses with Madhan in foul language in their videos.

The police on Tuesday registered a case against the PUBG gamer on charges of using obscene language in his gaming videos that were uploaded on YouTube while alleging that they have received over 100 complaints from different localities.

The Chennai police on Wednesday picked up Kruthika, 26, from their residence in Salem. Sources confirmed that she was moved to Chennai along with Madhan’s father and brother, and was interrogated before being remanded in judicial custody.

“They did this to make their channel popular. Kruthika is also the admin of the channel and uploaded the videos on YouTube,” a police officer said of the matter.

Madhan who is a native of Salem is a full-time YouTuber and posts PUBG videos on his channel called ‘Toxic Madan 18+’. He has over 8 lakh subscribers on his YouTube channel.

A majority of the complaints against him were focused on obscene talks but some also alleged they were cheated via Instagram. A laptop, desktop, and mobile phone have been seized from Kruthika and further investigation is ongoing.
